PNP ready to help in cash aid distribution for typhoon victims

As President Rodrigo Duterte taps the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to implement the cash aid distribution in areas hit by typhoon Odette, PNP units are awaiting further instructions and coordination with concerned government agencies for the smooth implementation of the aid program.

“The PNP will always be ready to serve in any way we can. But since there are no specific instructions as of now, we will just wait for any mandate,” PNP Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said.

Duterte has tasked Interior Sec. Eduardo M. Año to supervise the distribution of cash aid in urban centers, while the military was tasked to manage aid distribution in hard-to-reach areas.

Right now, the PNP continues its effort to assist in the transport and security of relief goods for the calamity victims.

This will serve as the PNP’s benchmark whenever police personnel will be asked to help in the distribution of cash aid.

“We noted challenges such as the absence of electric supply and the desire of people to get their aid first before anyone else. These may somehow delay the distribution because we want to make sure that there is peace and order,” Carlos explained.

With this, the PNP shall make it a protocol to coordinate with the local government units or concerned government agencies to determine the orderly system of distribution. (PNP-PIO) – jlo
