PNP records 95 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death

The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 95 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death as of Wednesday (May 12).

In a statement released by the PNP, it reported that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the organization is 21,416, with 1,436 active cases, 19,920 recoveries, and 60 deaths.

PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar announced the death of a 48-year-old non-uniformed personnel on Tuesday (May 11). Based on a PNP Health Service (PNPHS) report, the patient tested positive on May 8.

“On May 6, he went to the nearby Rural Health Unit and sought medical assistance due to fever and dry cough, but immediately on the same day, he was advised to be confined at a nearby hospital where he [underwent] his swab test,” the report continued.

The PNPHS said he had difficulty breathing on May 11 and was pronounced dead at 4:00 p.m.

“We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Our non-uniformed personnel, being the backbone of the PNP organization, are also risking their lives during their render of duty in their respective unit,” Eleazar said. -jlo
