PNP sees 67th COVID-19 death among personnel, 167 cases reported

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service reported on June 2 its 67th COVID-19 fatality as well as 167 new cases among PNP personnel.

As of June 2, the PNP has recorded a total of 24,253 confirmed cases with 1,650 active cases. Some 236 recoveries were noted, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 22,536. 

PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the 67th fatality is a 47-year-old police executive master sergeant assigned in Tagum City.

He tested positive on May 27 and was immediately admitted to a local hospital where he continued to develop signs and symptoms of COVID-19. On May 31, his oxygen level continued to fluctuate and at around 5:11 p.m. on the same date, he was declared dead by his attending physician.  

“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the police personnel and [I] assure them [they will] receive benefits and financial assistance,” Eleazar said.

“In these trying times, as we are battling the unseen enemy, we are unwavering in our desire to attend to the financial and basic needs of our PNP personnel and their families who are also affected by this pandemic,” Eleazar added. -jlo
