PNP taps Anti-Cybercrime Group to probe students’ online cheating

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday (Sep. 21) ordered the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) to coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) regarding the alleged cheating of students online amid the implementation of distance learning.

Education Sec. Leonor Briones initially requested for the PNP to probe and identify those who are behind the “online kopyahan” that has gone viral on social media and garnered negative reactions from netizens.

“Matapos nating marinig ang paghingi ng tulong ni Secretary Liling Briones, kaagad kong inatasan ang aming Anti-Cybercrime Group [ACG] na makipag-ugnayan sa Department of Education [DepEd] upang alamin kung paano makakatulong ang inyong PNP dito,” the PNP chief said in a statement.

Based on initial reports, a Facebook group was created for students to share answer keys for their exams.

In a public briefing on Monday (Sep. 20), Briones assured that the department will not tolerate cheating among students. She said that the dishonest action is a “lingering issue” in schools.

“We will take steps and we already are in touch with the appropriate authorities because we will not tolerate it at least in education,” she said.
