The Philippine National Police (PNP) has stated that the crime rate of the country may increase under the general community quarantine (GCQ) due to the increased number of people who would go out to work and shop for necessities.
The PNP will not remove the quarantine checkpoints to ensure peace and order, and the observance of social distancing and wearing of face masks.
4,000 quarantine checkpoints and 100 dedicated control points have been established by the PNP nationwide.
According to Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, the public must get used to the implementation of checkpoints as part of the “New Normal”.
Eleazar clarified that checkpoints are not meant to limit the rights of the public but are a way to protect them against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). – PTV News
