PNP upholds cease-fire between state and communist groups

The Philippine National Police (PNP), in light of the unilateral and reciprocal cease-fire raised by President Rodrigo Duterte between the Philippine government and communist associations, has ordered the suspension of operations against the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People’s Army (NPA). Accordingly, any police undertaking against said communist leagues are halted temporarily. This, however, does not include the normal law enforcement against crimes, drugs, and terrorism carried out by policemen.

The Department of National Defense, similarly, will comply with the Chief Executive’s directive.

Just a few hours after said cease-fire took effect, two separate attacks took place that were attributed to said communist groups. Allegedly, the NPA launched an assault on a PNP patrol car in Iloilo, that resulted in 2 injured policemen. In Camarines Norte, a soldier officer died and six people were wounded following an ambush incident. The Armed Forces of the Philippines condemns the assault of the rebel groups.
