PNP urges due diligence in publicizing alleged “ninja cops”

Following the Senate’s decision to divulge the names of officers involved in recycling illegal drugs, or “ninja cops”, the Philippine National Police seeks consideration for their human rights . PNP Spokesperson BGen. Bernard Banac states that while the agency respects the Senate’s move, the PNP hopes to avoid undue persecution. Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año has agreed earlier with the disclosure of the identities of the ninja cops to spare innocent, hardworking police officers from the controversy. Meanwhile, the Manila Police District revealed the identity of the alleged “Manila Drug Queen” as Barangay Captain Guia Gomez Castro, who has reportedly fled the country. A warrant of arrest has yet to be issued for Castro but the PNP is now coordinating with its counterparts abroad where Filipinos involved in the illegal drugs trade are in hiding.
