PNP urges public to use S-paSS

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public to use the S-pass following the return of Metro Manila under the general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions.

According to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the S-paSS (https://www.s-pass.ph/) is an online system “primarily intended to efficiently manage travels of Filipino local workers, Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFS), local tourists, and others who need to go on business from one province to the other.”

It was developed by the DOST Regional Office VI and was launched on March 26.

PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Friday (July 23) advised his police commanders to coordinate with the local government units (LGUs) to implement stricter border controls in the region to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

“Actually, ang ating Joint Task Force (JTF) COVID Shield [ay] nagkaroon na ng pag-uusap tungkol diyan. My directive is strictly implement itong mga guidelines…Maghi-higpit tayo ng pag-check sa kanila para ‘yung movement ng unauthorized person ay hindi naman palipat-lipat,” he said.

Eleazar explained that the restrictions to be implemented in checkpoints will be based on the decision of each local government unit and that the PNP will be on standby for the guidelines. – Report from Karen Villanda/NGS-rir
