PNP won’t condone ‘bounty hunter cops’

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will not condone acts of policemen who kill for profit, newly-appointed police spokesman Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. said Wednesday.

“(W)e will be on guard against those police officers who will be found doing things that are beyond their normal function,” Durana told reporters, adding that so-called bounty hunter policemen face criminal and administrative charges.

(Oscar) Albayalde,” Durana said on reports claiming that policemen act as bounty hunters.

Durana underscored that the PNP leadership is presently going after scalawags in the organization with 398 personnel now facing criminal charges.

The PNP spokesman pointed out that misfits, scalawags and corrupt policemen are very few, with the majority professionally doing their job to secure the country.
