Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin has directed the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and all its units to conduct a crackdown against vehicles without plate numbers and those using improvised plates.
“We need to intensify our operations against stolen vehicles,” Azurin said, as the government intensifies its campaign against criminality and amid traffic violations.
This was after unverified reports surfaced on social media that a white van was allegedly used in kidnapping.
The National Capital Region Police Office has already refuted the report, saying that a young girl has admitted merely fabricating her claim that three men on board a white van attempted to kidnap her in Caloocan City.
Azurin expressed belief that an effective way to counter similar incidents is a coordination with the Land Transportation Office to strengthen the campaign against car theft.
Meanwhile, he urged the public to immediately report to authorities any suspicious-looking vehicles.
Recently, police authorities noted that a mysterious van is used by criminals in kidnapping activities in Metro Manila. –ag
