Police arrest drug personalities in Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental — Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel have arrested two suspected drug personalities at a local hotel here.

The Dumaguete police, headed by Supt. Jonathan Pineda, on Monday apprehended suspects Moises Dumip-ig, alias “Moy”, 21, of the city; and Jhonnell Jay Sojor Olbo, 19, of Bacong, Negros Oriental.

An initial police report said the arrest was made following a call seeking police assistance because one of the hotels guests, who was later identified as Dumip-ig, was allegedly causing trouble and acting strangely.

Responding police personnel neutralized Dumip-ig inside his rented hotel room, and subsequently recovered the transparent plastic sheet containing suspected shabu and paraphernalia.

They were also able to confiscate other items and arrested Olbo.

Two other suspects, identified as Justine Dumip-ig and an alias Chang-Chang Patron, were able to evade arrest.

Pineda said appropriate changes will be filed against the suspects.

“Nag shift na ngayon ang mga suspects at doon na nila ginagawa ang illegal transactions sa mga hotels, lodging house, lalo na yung mga well-off na maka afford mag rent ng room (the suspects have shifted to doing their illegal transactions in hotels, lodging house, especially the well-off who can afford to rent a room),” he said.

Meanwhile, Pineda appealed to business establishments in the hotel industry to cooperate with the police by reporting immediately suspicious activity in their establishments. (Mary Judaline Partlow/PNA
