Police nab online recruiter for estafa

Anti-cybercrime police operatives arrested a fake online recruitment agent in Quezon City for estafa and violation of the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

“There has been a notable spike in cybercrime cases brought about by the pandemic, but the PNP has managed to adapt to the changing crime environment.”, the Chief PNP said as he commended PNP-ACG Director Brigadier General Marvin Manuel Pepino for the accomplishment up until the eve of his retirement on Wednesday.

MARY GRACE ABELLEDO REBULADO, 32, was arrested by operatives of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) in an entrapment operation along Governor Street, Menrey subdivision, Novaliches, Quezon City at 4:00PM on Tuesday.

CPNP Chief Police General Debold M Sinas said Rebulado was the subject of a complaint of Jesica Mariano Tolentino, 33, of Tarlac for alleged Estafa after she sent P35,000.00 to the suspect last February 18, 2020 purportedly for visa and placement fee for a job abroad thru an online a recruitment agency operated by the suspect advertised as International Adventure Travel Services.

Pepino reported to the Chief PNP that no visa or working permit was delivered to the victim.

The victim recently created another Facebook account to engage the suspect online for a possible entrapment operation by PNP-ACG. The suspect allegedly demanded money for travel reservation to Dubai, prompting ACG agents to set an entrapment and arrest the suspect.
