Poll: Most Filipinos say gays, lesbians ‘contributed a lot’ in progress of society

Majority of Filipinos said gays and lesbians “contributed a lot” in the progress of the society, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) poll found.

In a survey conducted from March 26 to 29, 73% of respondents agreed with the statement that “gays or lesbians have contributed a lot in the progress of our society.”

Meanwhile, 19% were undecided, while 8% disagreed.

The same poll also found that 48% of Filipinos said they will not force a family member to become straight men or women if they come out gay or lesbian.

Forty percent said they will force a family member to become straight, while 12% remain undecided.

Over half of Filipino adults or 57% believed that being gay or lesbian “is not contagious,” while 26% said otherwise, and 17% were undecided.

The poll was conducted among 1,200 Filipino adults nationwide. – cf
