Port of Manila posts P143-M surplus in January: BOC

By Ferdinand Patinio/PNA

MANILA — The Bureau of Customs-Port of Manila (POM) has posted a revenue surplus of PHP143 million in its January collection.

District Collector Rhea Gregorio said the port’s actual collection of PHP7.592 billion is higher than its target of PHP7.449 billion for the period.

She also reported that the total amount of import duties and taxes they collected last month were up by PHP1.79 billion from PHP5.8 billion a year ago.

Gregorio attributed the January surplus to “strict implementation and fair application of laws, rules and regulation and identifying overlaps and redundancies that causes red tape and avoidable delays.”

She also acknowledged the support and cooperation of all stakeholders and hardworking personnel in achieving the collection for the first month of the year.

Gregorio also served as district collector of Port of Subic from September to December last year, where she led the port to achieve an all-time high for its annual collections of PHP22.4 billion or a surplus of PHP1.3 billion.
