TUGUEGARAO CITY — Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade scored the lack of potable water facilities at the old passenger terminal building at the Tuguegarao domestic airport in Barangay Pengue Ruyu, this city.

Gracing the opening and turnover of the airport’s PHP45.99-million new passenger terminal building to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines on Wednesday noon, Tugade said he ordered the airport officials to put up ready water dispensers or facilities to be used by waiting passengers.

“Why there is no available water here? There must be available water so that passengers waiting for their trips will not be thirsty,” he said even as he asked the passengers and visitors to bear with the airport management.

Tugade, however, expressed relief on the accomplished project as he inspected the comfort rooms, baggage carousel area, passenger waiting lounge and other airport facilities of the new terminal building.

The project, he said, involved site, concrete, metal, and ceiling works, which included supply of labor, materials and equipment to complete the repair of walls, floor tiles, ceiling panels, and construction of columns.

“This is a part of the department’s plan to expand and modernize key secondary airports,” he said, adding that other secondary airports across the nation are either undergoing or have finished upgrading.

Aside from the new terminal, Tuguegarao Airport’s runway and taxi way, which cost PHP10.67-million, were also widened last year. Its airfield’s lighting system was upgraded to allow night-time operations, Tugade said. (Bill Visaya/PNA)
