PRC Batangas conducts relief distribution after Typhoon Jolina

After a series of rescue operations to help residents stranded in a flooded subdivision, the Philippine Red Cross Batangas Chapter also conducted rapid assessments of communities affected by Typhoon Jolina to determine their needs.

Based on the evaluation done by Red Cross volunteers and staff, 40 families from Brgy. Calayo, Nasugbu, Batangas received non-food relief packs from the PRC last September 13, 2021.

The relief sets consist of hygiene and sleeping kits, cooking utensils, and tarpaulins. Tarpaulins will be used as temporary walls or roofs for those whose houses were severely or damaged by the heavy rains and floods. “Kailangan alamin natin kung ano ang kailangan ng mga apektadong komunidad. We can not just give them food. They also need items for hygiene. May iba sa kanila na walang naisalba kundi pamilya nila, we have to be sensitive enough to assess those needs,” said PRC Chairman and CEO, Sen. Dick Gordon.

Chapters in Cagayan and Batanes are also conducting their respective activities in response to the damage brought by the recent typhoons.

The PRC has been at the forefront of every disaster, providing services and much-needed assistance to the most vulnerable even in the middle of a global pandemic. PRC Volunteers and staff, as well as the beneficiaries, of such activities and responses, were trained to observe the proper safety and health protocols to avoid the spread of COVID-19. (PRC)-rir
