President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday, Aug. 26, assured the national government’s full support in revitalizing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through “creating a more sustainable environment” for them.

In his speech during the MSME Summit of Go Negosyo in Manila, he said MSMEs are one of his “top priorities” under his term.

I reiterate the government’s full commitment to work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to make certain that MSMEs are protected and provided with ample opportunities, not only to recover from these extraordinary times but to grow and thrive in this modern age,” he said.

Marcos stressed the “critical role” of MSMEs even during the pandemic.

“Our MSMEs formed part of the backbone of our economy, generating more than half of our employment and this is why it is fully recognized that this sector’s critical role in our country’s economic regeneration, job creation, and poverty reduction is critical,” he said

The President also expressed support to the MSME Development Council led by the Department of Trade and Industry in formulating and laying out “strategic goals” in improving the country’s  business climate, access to finance, management and labor, access to technology and innovation, and access to market.

Meanwhile, the chief executive expressed high hopes on the outcome of the event, which will open new doors and strategies for MSMEs “to realize their full potential as our nation’s vehicles for growth and for development.”

He is confident that the partnership between the private sector and the national government will be an “avenue” in “ensuring and enabling” a safe community for the recovery of the MSMEs.  –ag
