President Duterte leads inspection of Lal-Lo Airport In Cagayan

LAL-LO, Cagayan—President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Wednesday, March 14, led the inspection of the Cagayan North International Airport (CNIA) here.

Upon his arrival, the Chief Executive was briefed by Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) Administrator Raul Lambino about the development and further plans for the airport.

Duterte was joined by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go during the inspection.

Commonly referred to as the Lal-lo airport, the CNIA is owned and managed by the Cagayan Premium Venture Development Corporation (CPVDC), a joint venture between CEZA and Cagayan Land Property Development Corporation (CLPDC).

The airport was conceptualized to boost the capability of Cagayan Valley’s tourism.

It materialized through the efforts of a Public-Private Partnership between the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority and private corporations, including the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport (CSEZFP).

Since 2015, the CNIA has been catering to chartered flights regularly, totaling to 234 flights to date.

In 2017 and 2018, airport upgrades were done, which include the construction of the remaining runway facilities required by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines for the airport to acquire full aerodrome certificate.

The upgrade likewise include the development of the Runway End Safety Areas on both ends of the 2.1-kilomter runway and the runway strip width running along the edges of the 45-meter-wide strip. (PND)
