Proposal creating gov’t department for OFWs passes second reading

The proposal to create a department for Filipino migrant workers has passed the second reading in the Senate.

President Rodrigo Duterte certified Senate Bill No. 2234 or the Proposed Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act as an urgent bill.

According to Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, the final reading of the proposition will be held this Tuesday (Dec. 14).

The final reading will include the discussion of the adopted amendments including the proposed amendment by Senator Franklin Drilon regarding the name of the department to be created. -Report from Alvin Barcelona/PG – bny
