PRRD declares June 15 holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr

MANILA – Employees and students will enjoy yet another long weekend from June 15 to 17 this year.

On Wednesday, President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Proclamation No. 514, which declared June 15 as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr.

Eid’l Fitr or the end of Ramadan is a religious festival being observed globally by Muslims.

Republic Act No. 9177 was signed in 2002 to celebrate Eid’l Fitr with the date of observance announced yearly, based on the Muslim calendar.

The upcoming long weekend is just one of at least 10 scheduled for 2018.

With Duterte’s proclamation, the month of June will have two regular holidays. The other being June 12 (Tuesday) which is the country’s 120th Independence Day from Spain. (Jelly Musico/PNA)
