PRRD expresses support for Silk Road initiatives

ZHIANGJIAJIE, China – President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed support for the initiatives of the Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC), which seeks to promote trade and economic development in the region.

In a message sent to the SRCIC for the 2018 Silk Road Business Summit that opened here Tuesday, Duterte reiterated the partnership of the Philippines and China towards fair and competitive trade.

“More than being a steadfast economic partner, China has provided various opportunities in several areas, such as infrastructure, livelihood development, and international cooperation,” he said.

“I have no doubt that our two countries have been working hand-in-hand to promote fair and competitive trade for a more dynamic and progressive Asia-Pacific region,” he added.

The Philippines’ Chief Executive commended the SRCIC for holding the annual Silk Road summit, gathering various stakeholders to explore collaboration among countries to promote trade and investment.

“I trust that the participants will share (their) best practices and nurture linkages that will further promote openness and inclusiveness in the region,” Duterte said.

“Together, let us demonstrate our genuine reforms in trade and governance as we maintain our steady march towards sustainable progress,” he added.
