PRRD favors wide use of saliva-based COVID-19 testing

President Rodrigo R. Duterte stated Monday night that he favors the wide use of saliva-based Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) testing.

According to the President, the saliva-based testing is a much easier process than the swab test.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman Senator Richard Gordon shared that saliva testing has a 99% accuracy rate.

The Department of Health (DOH) initially stated in August 2020 that the possible use of the said testing is being studied by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) but the result has yet to be released. – PTV News
