President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed a law on Wednesday (May 26) that allows the Philippine president to delay the increase in Social Security System (SSS) contributions.
Under Republic Act No. 11548, the President will have the power to suspend the increase of the said contribution while the country is declared to be under a state of calamity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Social Security Act of 2018 says a 13% rate hike in the monthly contribution is to be implemented regularly. However, several lawmakers objected to the law due to the country’s current situation.
