PRRD urges LGUs to abide by the guidelines

President Rodrigo Duterte admonished the Local Government Units (LGUs) to abide by the stringent guidelines of the national government on the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

The President warned that local officials who will not abide by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) guidelines can be incriminated.

The Chief Executive, in his public address midnight, reminded the importance of social distancing in preventing the spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). He also stated that the stranded individuals because of the suspension of mass transportation can ask assistance from the military.

Malacañang clarified the origin of the newly-given directive of President Duterte for the LGUs.

“The Office of the President has received reports, however, that some local government units (LGUs) do not follow those guidelines and have enforced their own measures in contravention to the specified standards established by the IATF for strict enforcement.” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo has stated.

“While the Palace recognizes the efforts of our LGUs, it must be emphasized that the contagion has reached a magnitude that requires the forceful enforcement of tested stringent measures to affect the survival of this nation,” Presidential Spokesperson Panelo has reminded.
