President Rodrigo Roa Duterte urged the public to follow the minimum health standards and get vaccinated to be protected from the COVID-19 Delta variant.
In his public address on Monday (Aug. 9), President Duterte asked for the public’s compliance with the government health protocols since the government “can only do so much.”
“Kailangan mong gawin ‘yan para talagang mamenos-menos ‘yung sakit natin. We’re trying to control the spread of the virus but we can only do so much. Kailangan kayong mga tao magsunod talaga sa utos ng gobyerno kasi ito para sa kabutihan ninyo; hindi ito para sa kabutihan naming,” he said.
The President warned against the aggressiveness and high transmissibility of the Delta variant.
“Kami may kabutihan rin kami sa amin, nagpa-inject na kami ng vaccine. Kayo, para sa inyo ‘yan. Kung ayaw ninyo, well, ‘pag nahawaan kayo, lalo na itong Delta, well, I think that you can say goodbye to the world kasi it’s a very aggressive at a very violent virus that enters your body at uubusin ‘yung lungs mo pati heart mo.”
The Chief Executive emphasized that wearing the mask is “very important” and is a “basic thing in fighting infection.” He added that the vaccine also provides protection against the virus.
“Pero kung bakunado ka, ang pasok ng virus sa katawan mo parang may lumalaban sa loob, in your body. And that’s the vaccines that you are receiving for COVID-19. Pero may epekto ito sa COVID Delta in the sense that it cannot really — hindi makabuwelo sa katawan mo. It cannot really prosper kung ang tao may bakuna, at maghugas ng kamay, iyong mask, then the shield, and iyong sinasabi nila, hugas ng kamay pati social distancing,” he said. – rir
