Public advised to eat moderately this Yuletide season

ILOILO CITY — With parties being held left and right to celebrate Christmas, people tend to overeat and forget about their diet.

Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado, chief of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), thus advised the public, especially those with health concerns, to eat in moderation and to not forget to take their maintenance medications.

In an interview on Thursday, she mentioned that people with diabetes should avoid eating too much sweets while those with hypertension should do away with fatty food.

“We can eat but we just need to limit it because if you have health problems, you should think that you will be the one who will suffer if you do not take care of yourself,” Trabado said.

She also urged those who are in charge of preparing food for parties and gatherings to practice good hygiene to ensure food safety. Excess food must be properly stored to avoid contamination that could result in food poisoning, she noted.

Trabado also said the public should ensure that their source of water is clean.

Just as important as eating in moderation, she noted, is exercise. “Healthy lifestyle is important to help burn the calories in our body,” she said.

Trabado said it is always important to remain healthy to ward off sickness.
