The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned on Wednesday, Jan. 25, the public against scams perpetrated by drivers posing as transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) providers.
This after LTFRB received reports from social media about a vehicle allegedly offering TNVS services among commuters and charging them a higher fare.
“I was really disturbed by these ‘scams’ allegedly perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals against ride-hailing app customers,” LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said.
“If indeed they are doing it, they should stop immediately. It affects the business of legitimate ride-hailing apps and more importantly the commuting public,” Guadiz added.
Guadiz said that while he understands the plight of some private vehicles who are looking for extra income by engaging in TNVS service, especially those who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, he advised those to instead apply for a franchise.
“There is always a right way in doing things, particularly when it comes to offering services to the public. For those who want to offer TNVS services and earn extra money, they should apply for a franchise,” he stressed.
A private vehicle owner was seen operating around the area of a mall in Quezon City and reportedly offerding TNVS services.
The said vehicle owner was already ordered by the Land Transportation Office to explain before the agency on Jan. 31, on why he should not face an administrative case for being a colorum vehicle and why his driver’s license should not be revoked. –ag
