CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — The Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) sought the cooperation of candidates and the public to ensure peaceful and honest mid-term elections.

Lawyer Jonalyn Sabellano, provincial election supervisor (PES) and Police Senior Supt. Leon Victor Rosete, NEPPO director, aired this appeal during the unity walk and peace covenant signing from the Ninoy Aquino Freedom Park to the police compound along Burgos Street here on Monday.

The activities were participated in by candidates for various elective positions who pledged to pursue peaceful and honest elections.

The Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Division, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Catholic church and other religious denominations also joined the event.

Sabellano stressed that any violation of election rules have corresponding penalties that may include disqualification and removal from office.

There have been some politicians who have been elected but later unseated for violating election laws.

“Simpleng batas, simpleng pagsunod (Simple law, simple compliance),” she said.

Rosete, meanwhile, called on motorists to cooperate with lawmen in Comelec checkpoints even as he vowed to keep such within the limit of the laws.

“These checkpoints will be marked with lights and our men will be in proper uniform,” Rosete said.

He urged motorcycle riders to always bring their certificate of registration and driver’s license.

Plain view rules will also be implemented for large vehicles.
