PUP, nakagawa ng 6-K litrong alcohol na may VCO

Nakagawa ang Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Research Institute for Science and Technology (RIST) ng 6,000 litrong ethyl alcohol na may kahalong virgin coconut oil (VCO).                                                                               

Sinimulan ng PUP ang inisyal na produksyon nito noong Marso bilang bahagi ng kanilang pagtugon sa COVID-19 pandemic.

Habang wala pang face-to-face ang mga estudyante nito, sa mga komunidad, ospital, at istasyon ng pulis muna ibinabahagi ang mga produkto. Susunod namang bibigyan ang mga estudyante nito.

Ayon kay Armin Coronado, director ng PUP-RIST, may mga pag-aaral na nagsasabing ang VCO ay may “effective anti-microbial activity.”

“So inisip natin na siya ay ilagay rito para mas mabilis or masigurado tayo na mabilis ang pagpatay sa COVID-19 na virus,” paliwanag ni Coronado kamakailan.

Naglaan ang Commission on Higher Education (CHED) ng P4.9 milyong pondo sa institusyon para sa produksyon ng 12,000 litrong alcohol sa loob ng tatlong buwan.

Wala pang balak ang PUP research team na ibenta ito, pero bukas silang ipa-utility model ang naimbentong alcohol. – Ulat ni Karen Villanda/AG-jlo
