The Quezon City government issued today (July 20) an ordinance requiring the use of “KyusiPass” contact tracing application in all business establishments amid the prevailing Delta variant threat.
The newly approved Ordinance No. PO21CC-456 obliges establishments to prepare their QR codes not later than August 15, in line with the local government’s move to fully implement the contact tracing application use.
Business establishments that fail to properly use the application will be penalized, according to the local government, following the reported violations of recently closed bars for not implementing and observing health protocols.
“We found out that those bars have KyusiPass at their entrances for display only, but when we tried to contact trace their customers, their databases were empty,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
“With the swift passage of this ordinance, we can now do random checks of various establishments and determine if they are really using the app properly”, Belmonte added.
The ordinance was introduced by Majority Floor Leader Franz Pumaren. Earlier this year, Quezon City Council approved Ordinance No. 3019, S-2021 or the “KyusiPass” Ordinance to provide businesses with a six-month transition period.
Sanctions
A fine of P3,000 and suspension of franchise or business permit until violation has been rectified will be imposed on violators for their first offense.
Violators on their second offense will be fined P5,000, and will face franchise and business permit suspension, with issuance of temporary closure order
The government will revoke the business permit or franchise of business establishments on their third offense. They will also be fined P5,000 and their establishment ordered closed. -rir
