QC starts its vaccination of senior citizens

By Allan Francisco

The Quezon City government has started today its COVID-19 vaccination for senior citizens using the remaining 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca.

Through the assistance of the barangays, the local government was able to coordinate with senior citizens living near the vaccination sites.

“Ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Quezon City ay mayroong natitirang 2,000 doses ng AstraZeneca. Bagamat ito ay limitado pa sa ngayon, ating inilaan ito sa mga senior citizen upang sila ay maumpisahan nang mabakunahan (The local government of Quezon City has an excess of 2,000 doses of AstraZeneca. While this is limited for now, we are allocating this to senior citizens so we can start vaccinating them),” the LGU wrote in a statement.

In accordance with the protocol laid by the national government, the LGU believes that,
“Kasunod ng ating mga active frontline health workers, mahalagang mabakunahan na rin agad ang ating mga senior citizen. Subalit hindi pa sapat ang ating supply ng AstraZeneca (Next to the frontline healthcare workers, it is important to immediately vaccinate senior citizens. But there is not enough supply of AstraZeneca),” the LGU clarified.

The local authorities mentioned that the national government has SINOVAC supplies but the Food and Drug administration is not recommending it for the elderly.

“Ang Sinovac ay ating ilalaan sa iba pang nasa priority list ng DOH [Department of Health] (We are setting aside the Sinovac for other people in the priority list of the DOH),” they added.

The QC government has encouraged its residents to keep on monitoring their official Facebook page and website for further announcements on the vaccination of all senior citizens.
