QC to give free bike helmets before imposing fines

The strict implementation of the Quezon City ordinance on the mandatory wearing of helmet by cyclists will begin by the end of October to give way for the distribution of free helmets.

The implementation of Ordinance No. 2942 has already started on October 15, but enforcers opted not to apprehend bikers without helmet in consideration for the city’s plan to hand over the remaining 2,000 pieces of the safety gear.

The city government said it will immediately release an official statement regarding the stricter guidelines.

Based on the latest ordinance of the city government on bike helmet use, violators will be fined Php 100.00 on their first offense, Php 300.00 on second offense, and Php 500.00 for third offense. These are lower than the previous penalties amounting to Php 1,000 to Php 5,000. – Report from Karen Villanda
