Quezon public school students get school supplies

TIAONG, Quezon – It was not too late for Grade school pupils of Claro M. Recto Memorial Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion 1 in this town to receive their school bags and supplies and save their parents and guardians additional expenses even as classes already opened last June 4.

The distribution of the school bags with supplies started Friday and was led by House Minority Floor Leader and Quezon 3rd District Rep. Danilo Suarez and his wife, former Rep. Aleta Suarez.

The school, being the largest in the town, has more than 13,000 students who were all given sturdy backpacks containing notebooks, paper, pen and pencils as part of the solon’s assistance to education.

Suarez also pledged a computer laboratory to the school to help the faculty in their administrative duties.

Mayor Ramon Preza said the day felt like Christmas due to the early gifts for the school, which is one of the recipients of Suarez’s educational assistance.

Later that day, Suarez also presided at the oath-taking of new village officials, garbed in Filipiniana and barong tagalog, from the town’s 31 barangays at the covered court beside the municipal hall.

In his speech, Suarez emphasized to the new village officials their crucial roles as front liners in the delivery of basic services to the communities.

“Don’t regard your being barangay officials as a job or profession. Treat it as a responsibility that makes you accountable to the people you promised to serve,” Suarez said. (Belinda M. Otordoz/PNA)
