Quezon City to give cash aid for indigent PWDs

By Alec Go

The local government of Quezon City said it is aiming to include 8,000 individuals in its Persons with Disability (PWD) Social Welfare Assistance Program that will grant a P1,500 quarterly subsidy to qualified PWDs this year.

A total of 700 beneficiaries have been initially enrolled in the program, according to the city government.

“Kaya binuo natin itong programang ito para kahit papaano ay makatulong sa gastusin ng kanilang pamilya lalo na ngayong tumataas ang presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said, noting that the benefits received by PWDs from agencies are limited.

Qualified beneficiaries include PWDs residing in Quezon City who are not receiving financial aid from the national government.

Among the priority beneficiaries are PWDs who are bedridden and those with severe health conditions that seriously impair normal life.

Solo parents with a child with disability are also included, along with displaced PWD workers living alone, and PWDs living with senior citizen parents.

Quezon City residents who want to apply for the program should submit all documentary requirements to the Persons with Disability Affairs Office.

They will also undergo an interview and verification. Qualified beneficiaries will be paid through direct payment of electronic means.

Here are the documentary requirements for the program:

  • PWD QCitizen ID and proof of residence from their barangay
  • Updated medical certificate and photo of the bedridden PWD resident
  • Certification from the previous company for a displaced PWD employee
  • PWD QC ID of the child with disability
  • Certification from the Social Services Development Department for indigent solo parents living with CWDs
  • Senior Citizen QC IDs for PWDs who live with their senior citizen parents
