Quirino Eid celebration ends peacefully

MANILA — Police announced a peaceful celebration of the Muslim holiday of Eid al Fitr in Manila Friday.

At the Quirino Grandstand, the Manila Police District (MPD), led by Chief Supt. Rolando Anduyan, deployed about 100 police officers since 3 a.m., providing area security, traffic assistance, and public safety services.

MPD Police Station (PS) 5, led by Senior Insp. Arvin Creencia, said the celebration ended at about 7:25 a.m., with the crowd of faithful numbering 4,000. The crowd thinned at about 8 a.m., police said.

Aside from PS5, the MPD District Mobile Force Battalion, led by Chief Insp. Elias Dematera, secured the area.

The MPD said intelligence monitoring and target hardening measures for the celebration were implemented to thwart any threat that might disrupt the celebration. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
