A radio broadcaster for POWER 102.1 DYRY RFM in Mabinay, Negros Oriental was stabbed to death on Sunday night, Sept. 18.

Renato Blanco was killed using a 10-inch knife by a certain Charles Yanoc Amada. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His cause of death is through a stab in his right clavicle area.

The suspect was detained at the Mabinay Police Station.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) has yet to determine the exact motive on the killing of Blanco, but presumed it to be “work-related”.

PTFoMS Executive Director Joel Sy Egco said that they are continuously monitoring the safety of the journalists in the country and keeping constant communication with Chief Media Security Vanguard PBGen. Roderick Augustus Alba and the Media Security Vanguards.

Media Security Vanguards serve as the “first line of defense” for media workers in the country as they are the first to respond to all threats against media practitioners. – gb
