MANILA — Typhoon ‘Paolo’ strengthened as it moves over the Philippine Sea, bringing rains to most parts of the country, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday.

As of 3 p.m., ‘Paolo’ was spotted 930 km. east of Baler, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

‘Paolo’, moving north northwest at 15 kph, is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Sunday morning.

Scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over over Palawan, Bicol region, Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) due to the typhoon’s outer rain bands and the southwesterly windflow it enhances.

The typhoon is also enhancing the low pressure area located at 175 km. northwest of Puerto Princesa City bringing moderate to heavy rains over Palawan, Visayas, Bicol region, Zamboanga Peninsula and ARMM.
Residents are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

PAGASA also said sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon, the seaboard of Palawan, the western and eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindoro due to the typhoon. (PNA)
