Rains in most parts of PH likely due to ‘habagat’

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

The southwest monsoon (habagat) will cause rains across the country, the weather bureau said Friday, June 2.

Monsoon rains will be experienced over Occidental Mindoro, Antique, and northern Palawan including Cuyo, Calamian, and Kalayaan Islands.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast Severe Tropical Storm “Mawar,” formerly known as “Betty,” to enhance the “habagat.”

“Mawar” was last tracked 945 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, and the rest of Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

PAGASA said these areas may experience flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides are also possible during severe thunderstorms, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, the whole country will experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas.

Rough to very rough seas are forecast in the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea vessels not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
