Rains over Mindanao Saturday due to LPA, ITCZ

MANILA – Parts of Mindanao may experience rains on Saturday due to two weather systems, the weather bureau said.
A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted 570 km. northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, which is embedded in an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the regions of Caraga and Northern Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said
The southwesterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rains.
Slight to moderate coastal waters with waves up to 2.1 meters high are possible nationwide during the forecast period due to expected light to moderate winds over Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, in its special weather outlook for Monday’s mid-term elections, PAGASA said the ITCZ will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Visayas and Mindanao.
Luzon will experience cloudy to cloudy skies with afternoon rain showers or thunderstorms, especially over the Cordillera region, PAGASA said.
“Light southwesterly to westerly winds will prevail over Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao while light winds blowing from the southwest and southeast are expected over the rest of Luzon,” the weather bureau said.
