Rains to prevail across PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Most parts of the country will continue to experience rains caused by two weather systems and the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA), the weather bureau said on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

In its 4:00 a.m. weather advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the Eastern Visayas, Bicol, Mimaropa, Caraga, and Davao regions, as well as the provinces of Aklan, Capiz, Quezon, and Aurora, brought by the shear line affecting the eastern section of southern Luzon and the Visayas, and the trough of the LPA.

Cagayan Valley will experience rains caused by the northeast monsoon or “amihan” affecting northern and central Luzon.

Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to heavy rains, PAGASA said.

In a separate bulletin issued at 2:00 a.m., the bureau said moderate to heavy, with at times intense rains will be experienced over Eastern Visayas and Sorsogon in the next 24 hours.

It also forecasts moderate to heavy rains over Quezon and the rest of Bicol.

The northeast monsoon will also bring rains over the Ilocos and Cordillera regions.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by the shear line and localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over northern and central Luzon, and the eastern section of southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The seaboards of northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao will experience strong to gale-force winds.

Fishing boats and other small vessels are advised not to venture into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) – bny
