Rains to prevail across PH Wednesday

By Ma. Cristina Arayata / Philippine News Agency

Most areas in the country will experience rains due to the shear line affecting the eastern section of the Visayas and the northeast monsoon affecting Luzon, the weather bureau said on Wednesday.

In its 4:00 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the Visayas, Caraga, and the Bicol region will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the shear line. Flash floods or landslides are possible during moderate to at times heavy rains.

The bureau earlier said the shear line will cause moderate to heavy, with at times intense rains over Eastern Visayas, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Negros Occidental in the next 24 hours.

It said light to moderate, with at times heavy rains will be experienced over the rest of the Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon, including the Polillo Islands, will experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Isolated light rains will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of Mindanao will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will be experienced over Luzon, the Visayas, and the eastern section of Mindanao.

Strong to gale force winds are likely over the northern, western, and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

Rough to very rough seas are also forecast in those areas. Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

For the rest of Mindanao, light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas will prevail. (PNA) – jlo
