Rainy weekend in Northern Luzon as storm ‘Florita’ enhances monsoon

MANILA — Residents in extreme Northern Luzon would have to brace for a rainy weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Friday.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said tropical storm ‘Florita’ will enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring occasional rains in the area.

‘Florita’ was last spotted 860 kms east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained of up to 65 kms per hour and gustiness of up to 80 kms per hour.

The tropical storm, moving northwest at 11 kms per hour, is not expected to hit land.

Maintaining its speed and direction, ‘Florita’ is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains caused by localized thunderstorms.

The whole archipelago will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate coastal waters. (Lily Ramos/PNA)
