Recovery, wellness program for drug surrenderers in C. Luzon launched

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — The Central Luzon Police on Tuesday launched a progressive community-based recovery and wellness program for drug suspects who have voluntarily submitted themselves to authorities in Oplan Tokhang operations.

Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon) Director, Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, said the program aims for the complete rehabilitation and recovery of drug dependents so they could rejoin the community and rebuild their lives.

“This program of the PNP (Philippine National Police) is a clear manifestation that indeed, we value and respect the lives of every individual as we help assist and facilitate the complete recovery of drug dependents,” Corpus said.

He added that they are working closely with the different Anti-Drug Abuse Councils down to the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils since drug rehabilitation and treatment require a holistic follow-on recovery program to prevent a relapse.

Chief Supt. Rhodel Sermonia, director of the PNP Community Relations Group, spearheaded the cascading of the PNP recovery and wellness program among the different provincial/city directors and chiefs of police in Central Luzon.

“The community-based recovery and wellness program can lessen anonymity and emphasizes more on creating support networks for individuals who want to recover from drug addiction,” Sermonia said.

More than 130,000 drug personalities have surrendered voluntarily in Central Luzon since President Rodrigo R. Duterte ordered an all-out war against hard drugs, prompting PRO-3 to put up Bahay Pagbabago (Reformation Center) in every municipality in the region. (PNA)
