ILOILO CITY — Two non-government organizations (NGOs) in Western Visayas have committed support to the anti-criminality campaign of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6).
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed Monday between the Task Force Crusaders for Democracy Inc., Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines Inc. and the PRO 6 to seal their partnerships in fighting illegal drugs, illegal gambling, criminality, terrorism and terrorism, according to police regional spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero.
“This is more of a community partnership. They will be our force multiplier; they will provide us information and continuously monitor any acts of criminality, terrorism and lawlessness and violations on illegal gambling and loose firearms,” he explained.
He added that these NGOs could not perform police operations because they have no authority to do so.
The MOU means that they were recognized by PRO 6 as “civilians and NGOs who will support though information.”
Hugpong Federal of the Philippines has around 25,000 to 30,000 members while the Task Force Crusaders for Democracy has between 200 to 300 members.
The spokesperson said that supposing that if they will not engage in any illegal activities, then it will already create an impact. The information that they will provide is expected to help create a sustainable and developed community.
Gorero added that they would like to encourage non-government organizations to support local police in “maintaining and sustaining peace and development.”
Through the Police Community Relations Division, Gorero, said that they looked forward to forge more partnerships with other organizations.
He emphasized though that one needs not be a member of an organization or NGO to support the local police.

The Task Force Crusaders for Democracy, Inc, was represented by its Regional Commander Mr. Ian C. Paclibar, and Hugpong Federal Movement of the Philippines represented by Fortunato Pelaez, president of its Visayas Management Council also signed the MOU indicating the support of the non-government organizations to the police in maintaining peace and order and fight against terrorism in Western Visayas, Gorero said.
