Regions 8, 5, 9 and BARMM hurdle with delivery of COVID-19 samples for genome sequencing.

Four regions in the country are facing difficulties in sending COVID-19 samples for genome sequencing.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said these include Regions 8, 5, 9 and the Bangsamoro Region. These places have to hurdle with problems in transportation and lack of laboratories.

Genome sequencing is the process of detecting new SARS-COV-2 variants in samples that tested positive with COVID-19.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), the health department confirmed that 11 cities have reported cases of the UK variant while 7 are the affected by the South African variant.

Latest data from the Philippine Genome Center show that there are 118 cases of the UK variant and 58 of the South African variant.

There is one variant of concern that may be causing the spike in the number of cases in some areas. – PTV NEWS
