The remains of 35-year-old Jullebee Ranara, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was murdered in Kuwait, will be brought to her family in the Philippines on Friday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday, Jan. 26.
In a press conference, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega said they have coordinated with the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait to immediately bring Ranara’s remains to the country.
“I could tell you that they’ve also worked, the embassies really worked with the employer so that remains will be brought home, and that would be Friday night,” de Vega said.
The DFA said it will send a lawyer to Kuwait to handle Ranara’s case.
Based on the autopsy report received by the embassy, Ranara was pregnant when she was killed.
Ranara was discovered burned to death in the desert of Kuwait.
The DFA said the cost of the transfer of the remains will be shouldered by her employer.
“In this case, obviously, the employer, being the suspect’s father, had no problem funding it. But that was negotiated, it was worked out by the embassy,” de Vega said.
Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople already visited and reached out to Ranara’s family to provide the necessary support and vowed justice for her death. –With reports from Louisa Erispe & Katrina Gracia Consebido/ag
