Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Sunday said he tested positive for COVID-19 but assured his symptoms are not severe.

Remulla attended the first Cabinet meeting of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malacañang on Tuesday.

Marcos also tested positive for the virus on Friday, July 8.

“I have Covid. Tested positive Thursday,” Remulla said in a text message to the media.

He said his symptoms are “very mild” and he will follow the protocol for isolation and observation of seven days.

The President has no signs of respiratory distress or pneumonia and is in stable condition as reported by his personal doctor, Dr. Samuel Zacate, according to a statement by Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles on Sunday.

Angeles said the President only has mild symptoms with “no fever, no loss of taste and smell sensation.”

Marcos first contracted COVID-19 during the height of the pandemic in 2020 and when vaccines were not yet available.

Cabinet members of the Duterte administration also had bouts with COVID-19, among them Ramon Lopez (Trade), Leonor Briones (Education), Eduardo Año (Interior and Local Government), Delfin Lorenzana (Defense), Harry Roque (Spokesperson), and Carlito Galvez Jr. (Peace Adviser/National Task Force Against COVID-19 chief). – gb
