Rep. Garbin asks congress to authorize President Duterte to make PAGCOR fund PSC, CHED while PCSO ops are closed

Congressman Alfredo Garbin has filed a resolution authorizing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to direct the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation to provide direct funding support to the Philippine Sports Commission and the Commission on Higher Education.

Garbin said that with Philippine Charity and Sweepstakes Office operations indefinitely shut down “there is an urgent necessity to urge President Duterte to exercise his executive powers and for Congress, which has the ‘power of the purse’ to authorize the President to cause PAGCOR to fund the PSC and CHED.”

The PSC and CHED are among the government agencies the PCSO is mandated by law to finance with its earnings.

Garbin’s resolution also requires the PSC, CHED, and Department of Budget and Management, and Department of Finance to determine the exact levels of funding support needed from PAGCOR.

“Iniiwasan natin ang anumang aberya sa PSC, SEA Games, at sa CHED dahil sa korapsyon sa PCSO. Ayaw natin na magambala ang athletes training, SEA Games hosting, pag-aaral ng mga kabataan sa kolehiyo, at research ng mga pamantasan,” Garbin said.
