Rep. Mikee Romero to file ‘Eddie Garcia Law’ on actors’ occupational safety and health standards

1-PACMAN Party-list Rep. Michael “Mikee” Romero, stepson of the late legendary actor-director Eddie Garcia, disclosed on Monday that he will file an “Actors’ Occupational Safety and Health Standards Act” to be memorially named “The Eddie Garcia Law”.

“Dear Fellow Legislators, please support me in my quest to create a law to put a bigger meaning to Tito Eddie Garcia’s death,” Romero said in a Facebook post.

“I expect more than 100 of my fellow legislators to co-sign the bill with me. And likewise expect the Senate through Senate President Tito Sotto to file the counterpart bill in the Senate,” the President of the Party-list Coalition said.

Romero said his “Eddie Garcia Law” will be his first bill when the 18th Congress opens on July 22.

“The ‘Eddie Garcia Bill’ will be a means to safeguard the welfare and well-being of all actors working in the television and/or in the movie industry,” the congressman said.

This bill’s salient points are as follows:

1. Mandatory actors and production insurance coverage
2. Specific work hours for (Between 8-12 hours only):

a) Below 18 years old,
b) 18-59 years old and
c) 60 years old and above (Senior Citizens)

3. Medical and safety procedures on production set and within its area of responsibility
4. Mandatory installation of safety officers within its area of responsibility
5. Emergency operational standards and procedures
6. Penalties and liabilities for violations
