ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) turned over to Indonesian authorities on Thursday a fisherman rescued in the island province of Sulu.

Lt. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega, Westmincom chief, handed over Samsul Saguni to Col. Mohammad Reza Suud and Col. Sigit Himawan, Indonesian Defense Attachés around 8 a.m. Thursday in Camp Navarro.

Saguni and the Indonesian Defense Attachés left this city en route to Manila at 12 noon Thursday.

Saguni was rescued on Tuesday in Sulu. He was kidnapped along with another Indonesian fisherman, Usman Yunos, by terrorists on September 11, 2018 while aboard a fishing vessel in the waters of Semporna, Sabah.

Joint Marine and police forces rescued Yunos on December 6, 2018 in Barangay Bual, Luuk, Sulu.

Suud and Himawan thanked the Westmincom for its offensives against the Abu Sayyaf that led to the rescue of Saguni.

Dela Vega said military troops will continue to pressure the terrorists and work with their counterparts to rescue remaining captives kept in the hinterlands of Sulu.
